Salu Self Help Blind and Handicapped Association, was established in June 1997. It was registered legally to operate with Addis Ababa City Administration and accorded a certificate of registration then. Blind and disabled persons, who were making a living by begging, gathered together with the belief and motto of “We admonish beggary to become a working citizens”, found the association for mutual purpose of improving their lives.

Project
The setting ups and socio-economic characteristics of the population of the catchments areas selected for the actions in 2007 are as follows.

a) Addis Ababa
Addis Ababa is the capital city of Ethiopia situated at the centre of the country. It is also referred to as the diplomatic capital of Africa with headquarters of AU and UN agencies. Though not precise demographic projection yet, ....

Testimony
Helen Desta, the young lady, was born in Addis Ababa 24 years ago. She had been attending primary school up to grade 5 when an unpleasant incident happened against her eyes. It was in 1998 when Helen lost her right side eye. She said that while attending class in 5th grade her female language teacher thrown a black board cleaning duster and hit her eyes.
